The USAT Liberty was a freighter that was torpedoed by a japanese submarine in 1942 and heavily damaged. The attempt to drag the ship to the harbour of Singaraja failed. So the crew decided to put the ship down near Tulamben and unload the cargo. The ship stayed there for the next 21 years until an eruption of the volcano Agung pushed the ship deeper into the ocean. At the wreck you can find all sorts tropical reef fish, fish swarms and many sorts of hard and soft corals. A paradise for photographers and for snorkling.

Gili Biaha, a big rock in the waterway of Lombok. On the inside of the sickle there is a stair-like descending steep face and a grotto, carving itself into the rock 9 m below the surface. Inside the grotto there are almost always sleeping whitetip reef sharks, lobster and other sorts of crabs. Due to the position of the cliff in the open sea you might spot big fish like manta or ocean sunfish, mola mola. The currents are strong and the coral growth very flat, while still dense.
Here you can enjoy the sight of sharks and, with a bit of luck, sea snakes, nudibranch and ocean turtles.

- Currents: none to strong, sometimes changing
- Coral growth: mainly soft corals
- Fish: lots of reef fish, at times big fish
- Highlights: Whitetip Reefsharks in shallow water
This small island lies north east of Bali, between Amed and Gili Biaha and is seperated from Bali only by a 12 m wide and 6 m deep channel. On the north side of the island there is a shallow lagoon where we start our dive. The lagoon is full of coral boomies, covered all over with soft corals, mostly christmas trees (Lithophytum arboreum) and Nephyta spec. In between we find Sea Whips (Junceella fragilis).
Lots of reef fish can be spotted here and despite the relatively shallow lagoon with a maximum depth of 18 m, Whitetip Reefsharks (Triänodon obesus) will come by now and then. In the lagoon there is hardly any current, only the swell can be strong from time to time. When the condituion are suited, we might dive into a spectacular Drop off that is going deep in a 45° angle. There are dangerous currents there so its only possible for experienced divers. If we are lucky, we might meet Hammerhead Sharks (Sphyrna lewini) at 30 m.
Japanese Wreck
On the south side of Gili Selang the reef descends in a 45° angle into unreachable depths. There is chance of seeing big fish.
A bit north of Gili Selang there is a small wreck. Its name is unknown, so is the reason why it sank. The wreck lies in depths of 3 to 15 m upright at the reef and is grown all over in a very beautiful way, mostly by Christmas trees (Lithophytum arboreum) and soft corals (Nephthya spec.). The reef itself descends into deep water at 45°. It is grown with Thorn corals (Seriatopora hystrix).
